To mark his 125 -year anniversary, Woodland Park Zoo surprised a special guest with a gift package and extraordinary experiences to celebrate 1.25 million visitors in 2024!
A century and a quarter ago the widow after Guy C. Phinney sold his scattered private property to the city of Seattle for $ 100,000. The land, the forest and the lake came with a small group of animals and became the lush oasis, it is today, Woodland Park Zoo.
Based on 2024 visits and pre -tickets for the rest of December, the Zoo expects to welcome 1.25 million guests after the new year. The Zoo staff chose a date and time for the celebration, and the unsuspecting visitors, Chantel Frizzell and her family, got the surprise of the year when they entered the zoo today and the staff informed them of their lucky arrival.
As an honor 1.25 million visitors of the year, the holiday came early for the family as they were showered with a number of zoological gifts and experiences, including:

- A nice behind the scenes giraffe meeting
- A footprint of a forest park zoo lion
- Tickets for wild
- Tickets for the 2025 Zootunes concert of your choice
- Passes to the historic carousel

Chantel visited the zoo today with her daughters, her stepson, his partner and their daughter
—Chantel’s grandson. She said she and her family have been Woodland Park Zoo members for years since her children were all young. Their favorite places in the zoo over the years have included Zoomazium – which Chantel was happy to bring her grandson to see today – to have shown the penguins, the Komodo dragons and the birds in the tropical rainforest. Chantel’s step -son and his family now live in Maine. They visit Seattle and were happy to bring their daughter to see the zoo he visited as he grew up in Seattle. This was the young first visit ever in a zoo.
Over the course of 125 years, Woodland Park Zoo has grown into a world -renowned conservation organization dedicated to exemplary animal care and commitment to society. A living room classroom is the zoo home to more than 800 animals representing 200 species. Today, the zoo is a great regional attraction that draws more than 1 million people every year and embarks on a journey that inspires a lifelong love for animals, makes science come alive and give people tools to take conservation measures.
