Ukraine on Tuesday supported an American proposal for a 30-day general ceasefire with Russia, where the United States, in turn, agreed to lift restrictions on military assistance and intelligence, a joint statement said.
After conversations in Saudi Arabia, the two sides also agreed to end “as soon as possible” an agreement on Ukrainian minerals, the statement states.
“Ukraine expressed emergency preparedness to accept the US proposal to adopt an immediate, tentative 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended with mutual agreement from the parties and which is subject to acceptance and at the same time implementation of the Russian Federation,” states a joint statement after the interviews.
“The United States will communicate to Russia that Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace,” it added.
“The United States will immediately lift the break of intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine.”
President Donald Trump closed help following a catastrophic meeting with his Ukrainian colleague Volodymyr Zelensky on February 28.
A message from Moscow Times:
Dear Readers,
We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia’s prosecution has appointed the Moscow Times as an “unwanted” organization that criminalizes our work and puts our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our previous unfair labeling as a “foreign agent.”
These actions are direct attempts to dampen independent journalism in Russia. Authorities claim that our work “discredits Russian leadership’s decisions.” We see things differently: We strive to give accurate, impartial reporting about Russia.
We, the journalists in the Moscow Times, refuse to be taved. But to continue our work, we need your help.
Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, you need to support us monthly from just $2. It is quick to configure and every contribution has a significant influence.
By supporting the Moscow times, you defend open, independent journalism in light of oppression. Thank you for standing with us.
