National Wildlife Refuge Association welcomes Natalie Balaguer as South Florida Regional Partnership Specialist - National Wildlife Refuge Association

Working in close collaboration with Arthur R. Marshall LoxaHatchee National Wildlife Refuge and local organizations, Natalie is focused on bringing society together to connect with nature in meaningful, lasting ways. With its roots in South Florida and a background in Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University, Natalie combines her deep personal ties with professional know-how to strengthen society’s relationships, engage new audiences and support conservation efforts on Earth.

“Natalie brings the passion and energy we need to take our South Florida Urban Wildlife Refuge program work to the next level,” said Desirée Sorenson-Groves, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Refuge Association. “She’s a sting, a partner and a natural leader – someone who understands the power in place and people. We are incredibly lucky to have her on board.”

Natalie is based on the strong foundation laid by Liz Figueroa, who helped lay a strong foundation through projects such as Conservation Ranger CampAt Liquid wetlandsand Pocket ticks. These programs are already seeing great success: the floating wetland installed at the Southtech Academy, thrive, the second annual Conservation Ranger Camp starts in the spring, and two new pocket closures are set to be planted soon.

In her role, Natalie builds on this momentum as she brings her own vision to the table. She collaborates with groups such as Standfirm Outreach, Friends of Arthur R. Marshall Loxahahatchee NWR and US Fish and Wildlife Service to elaborate outreach, improve programming and celebrate nature over South Florida. She also supports local storytelling – like the powerful film Garnes Garden– As it reaches new target groups on film festivals and social events throughout the region.

As a first generation of immigrant and proud member of the Latin American community, Natalie is obliged to create more inclusive ways of preservation. Her fluid in Spanish and her passion for breaking down barriers makes her an important bridge to South Florida’s various communities.
